"Man was born free, and he is everywhere in chains." - Rousseau

Why do so many people think that they are somehow justified in looking down on someone else, simply based on religious moral belief?

I do not understand this. It is a mentality that I wouldn't say is solely for those who believe themselves to be righteous, however it is very evident that these people whom claim to be religious, spiritual followers of God, seem to somehow think that they are less imperfect then the rest of use, whom may not believe all the same things they do, or even none of the same things that they do.

I wonder where they get the belief that they are more righteous, and that they are as God intended his children to be. It seems to me that God being as wondrous as "he" is supposed to be, would never want people with such hypocrites to represent his word. It is my opinion is a direct stab at their one lack of dignity, and in some essence intelligence.  We are all imperfect. We all have sinned, holy and christian or Muslim or Jewish, that is not important.  Gay, straight, deviant or not.  The God these people preach about says to turn the other cheek, much like the Amish have done in Lancaster county after the tragic event that saw 5 children die at the hands of a killer, child molester and suicide mercenary.

I read an article today, although for the life of me i cannot remember where, that said they do not lash out with hate, but turn the other cheek, and preach forgiveness.  They do not look down on the world outside of there communities, they do not push their beliefs onto the rest of society, so how can these others that I refer to do so? And believe that they are doing good?  I'm saddened where I hear of how closed some of these people are.  It makes my heart ache for a society who feels more and more like a lost cause, when those who claim to be our betters, at least in action by their mere words.  I feel almost inclined to question the stability of such people. To claim to be less perfect, to use the bible as factual information to an interpretation that can be manipulated, is not of sound thought or reasoning in my opinion.  I am at a loss in comprehending these tactics.

Who are you to say I am more imperfect? Or that I will go to hell? Or that I am immoral? Or that I am a sinner?  When you utter these words, you yourself have sinned.  You are to be kind and gentle with your fellow man are you not? You are to respect and love and lend a hand to them? Yet instead these people say that people like I am a detriment to society, that we corrupt the young, and that in essence we are not good people purely for we are not as righteous as those you toot their on religious horn for being better, smarter, more moral and yet I find to me, in my value system, those every same comments make you less moral, more unkind, and selfish then anything someone like I will ever do to society. Prejudice is something that has taken over our world, and people hide behind it, behind their words, there belies, and think that somehow it makes them better, stronger and more worthy of life and afterlife (if you believe in such things.)

I am currently disgusted.
